Bilingualism at school

At Stepping Stones, language learning is conducted through immersion.

  • Teachers speak either French or English with the students, using only the language assigned to them.
  • Teachers in both languages are present during the Montessori sessions, which allows the child to choose their interlocutor, therefore avoiding the feeling of frustration with a language.
  • Teacher-led lessons and activities take place in small groups, with an equal number of hours taught in French and in English .
  • Our aim is that children acquire the languages intuitively. Therefore, our language learning strategies and teaching methods incorporate psychological, social and cognitive elements (see Excellence in Learning).
  • We ensure that all students achieve a comprehensive and structured understanding of each language.
